"Another symptom of progress toward the Singularity: ideas themselves should spread ever faster, and even the most radical will quickly become commonplace."

Unfortunately, a majority of the "radical" content racing across teh intarwebz these days is not technological R&D. Members of Cyberdyne are not currently working on creating "neural-net processors" but rather they're watching boobies bounce in High-Def and listening to hermaphroditic moans in 7.1 surround sound. Or worse ... they're playing World of Warcraft.

BUT, artificial intelligence could be stumbled upon in the hopes of creating the perfect pornbot. Weird Science, anyone? We'll call Kelly LeBrock's character 2V2A, for obvious reasons. If 2V2A is created as a direct result of millions of uber-nerds putting their l33t h4x0rs prog-skillz together, then the Technological Singularity could occur.

Maybe old Vernor Vinge knew a thing or two after all.

Or maybe he was just a porn maniac.
